Makin' Stuff Monday: Hand Sanitizer Part 2

**Giveaway results are posted below... scroll down**

Last week I showed you how to jazz up the hand sanitizers that stay in one place... and you don't really have to worry about coating those because they don't get moved too much. However... what about these little jewels?!? These treasures get tossed into your purse or gym bag and taken all over the place. They need to be a little cuter... and a lot sturdier than the pump variety of hand cleanser!
Here's what you need:
Paper Cutter and/or scissors
Mini Hand Sanitizer (not the huge pump kind)
Adhesive (glue- only for method 2 or embellishents)
Mod Podge (any variety will work)
Cute Paper (scraps work well)
Embellishments (optional)

There are two ways to do this and they depend on the variety of bottle you use.

Method 1 uses the Bath and Body Works bottle (a trapezoidal bottle)
1. Trace the outline of your mini-sanitizer bottle onto paper (do this twice).
2. Cut your paper slightly smaller than the bottle (do this twice).
3. Add your embellishments to the paper.
4. Coat the front and back of the bottle of sanitizer with Mod Podge and place your front and back paper onto the bottle. Work out any bubbles by smoothing the paper onto the bottle. Allow to dry 15ish minutes.
5. Apply a complete coat of Mod Podge over the entire bottle (excluding the bottom and cap) and cover the paper well (especially the edges). As you work, make sure to smooth out any bubbles in the paper. Allow to dry 15ish minutes. Repeat with 2-3 more coats.
6. Allow your final coat to dry 24ish hours before tossing your super cute new sanitizer into your purse!

Method 2 uses a generic bottle that is more rectangular in shape (like the pump bottles)
1. Measure the height of your bottle. Cut a paper long enough to wrap around the bottle and tall enough to cover the length (without going over).
2. Cut out the strip of paper.
3. Add your embellishments to the paper.
4. Coat the bottle of sanitizer with Mod Podge and carefully wrap the strip of paper around the bottle. If there is overlap of the paper, use your adhesive to secure the overlap.

For my project, I used 2 coats of Outdoor Mod Podge and one coat of Matte Mod Podge. The Outdoor Mod Podge was a little more tacky than I liked, so I covered with Matte and liked the finished tacky-ness.
Toss into your purse, gym bag, or car and enjoy your super cute little hand cleanser bottles.
With Valentines Day coming up... what a cute, personalized touch to put on a practical gift!

Inaugural Makin' Stuff Monday: Hand Sanitizer Makeover

I decided to make my inaugural project a simple one that anyone can do... and you probably already have the stuff to make it sitting around your house!

Since our daughter's hospital stay we have been going through hand sanitizer like CRAZY!! We have at least 6 different bottles of the stuff out to use... and then another handful of the little travel size versions to take with us everywhere. We even keep a bottle in each car in the cup holder so we can wash our hands on the go! We use the stuff all the time! However, I hate how ugly the bottles are. They are an eyesore for my home decor! I decided to give them a little makeover!

This project is super simple, and only takes a few minutes... so you can make over all your sanitizers in a jiffy!

Tools and Materials:
adhesive (double stick tape, glue or spray bond)
scrapbook paper to match your decor
paper cutter or scissors
embellishments
hand sanitizer bottles

Instructions:
1. Measure how tall your bottle of sanitizer is. Cut your paper that length. My bottles were about 4 inches tall, so I cut a little under 4 inches of paper.

2. Wrap the paper around the bottle and make sure it isn't too long. If it is too long, trim off the excess.

3. Using your adhesive, adhere the paper to the bottle placing the seam at the back of the bottle.

4. Embellish as desired.

5. Place all your new stylish bottles of hand sanitizer around the house! Enjoy your fabulous work!!

Things I Learned:
-You can use cardstock, but you need a strong adhesive to hold it secure.

-You don't need to worry about water proofing these because they don't get wet and they aren't moved too much, so the paper stays looking nice.

-There are bottles with white pumps... For my future bottles, I will just buy the white pump bottles, switch out the pump, and then treat the sanitizer like a refill. This way I won't have orange or mis-matched green pumps forever, but I can continue to use my already decorated bottles!
