Makin' Stuff Monday: Hand Soap Makeover

*Starting next week I will be doing some sewing tutorials!*

Click HERE if you are looking for the results of the Delurking Giveaway!

Okay... So remember how I LOVE Mod Podge? Well, this is probably my favorite thing I have done with Mod Podge so far. These little soaps are custom made to match my bathrooms and my kitchen!

For this project you will need Mod Podge (outdoor variety),

hand soap, and decorative paper.

First step is to peel off one of the labels from the soap (the back labels come off easily if you use the Bath and Body Works soaps).

Stick the label on paper (I used two sizes of soaps so I had two labels).

Trace around the labels to make the edge just a smidge wider. Cut out your template.

Trace around your template on the back of the decorative paper.

Cut out the decorative paper; and do this twice (front and back of soap bottle).

Decide if you are going to add any embellishments to your soaps (I used a strip of coordinating paper).

Cover the bottle with Mod Podge and apply paper. Then cover paper with Mod Podge. This is the time to work out any bubbles. If a bubble gets under the paper just use the brush/sponge or your fingers to work the bubble out to the edge. Allow to dry 15-20 min between coats.

Apply 3-4 coats being very generous around the edges and embellishments. Remember that this will dry clear so you can apply a very thick coat.

Once these are completely dry, set them next to your sinks! The outdoor Mod Podge makes them mostly waterproof so they can stand up to spashes!

Now you can enjoy coordinating soaps whenever you wash your hands!

Makin' Stuff Monday: Hand Sanitizer Part 2

**Giveaway results are posted below... scroll down**

Last week I showed you how to jazz up the hand sanitizers that stay in one place... and you don't really have to worry about coating those because they don't get moved too much. However... what about these little jewels?!? These treasures get tossed into your purse or gym bag and taken all over the place. They need to be a little cuter... and a lot sturdier than the pump variety of hand cleanser!
Here's what you need:
Paper Cutter and/or scissors
Mini Hand Sanitizer (not the huge pump kind)
Adhesive (glue- only for method 2 or embellishents)
Mod Podge (any variety will work)
Cute Paper (scraps work well)
Embellishments (optional)

There are two ways to do this and they depend on the variety of bottle you use.

Method 1 uses the Bath and Body Works bottle (a trapezoidal bottle)
1. Trace the outline of your mini-sanitizer bottle onto paper (do this twice).
2. Cut your paper slightly smaller than the bottle (do this twice).
3. Add your embellishments to the paper.
4. Coat the front and back of the bottle of sanitizer with Mod Podge and place your front and back paper onto the bottle. Work out any bubbles by smoothing the paper onto the bottle. Allow to dry 15ish minutes.
5. Apply a complete coat of Mod Podge over the entire bottle (excluding the bottom and cap) and cover the paper well (especially the edges). As you work, make sure to smooth out any bubbles in the paper. Allow to dry 15ish minutes. Repeat with 2-3 more coats.
6. Allow your final coat to dry 24ish hours before tossing your super cute new sanitizer into your purse!

Method 2 uses a generic bottle that is more rectangular in shape (like the pump bottles)
1. Measure the height of your bottle. Cut a paper long enough to wrap around the bottle and tall enough to cover the length (without going over).
2. Cut out the strip of paper.
3. Add your embellishments to the paper.
4. Coat the bottle of sanitizer with Mod Podge and carefully wrap the strip of paper around the bottle. If there is overlap of the paper, use your adhesive to secure the overlap.

For my project, I used 2 coats of Outdoor Mod Podge and one coat of Matte Mod Podge. The Outdoor Mod Podge was a little more tacky than I liked, so I covered with Matte and liked the finished tacky-ness.
Toss into your purse, gym bag, or car and enjoy your super cute little hand cleanser bottles.
With Valentines Day coming up... what a cute, personalized touch to put on a practical gift!

Hi Michelle - I've got to admit, I've been following Karsie's blog (almost daily since spring time last year) and, from hearing about your new blog there, have been following you here all week! I don't know how you find time to do it, but I like it!! Thanks for the recipe and I look forward to more tutorials (and freebies! I'm so trying the canvas print this weekend!).

As for me and Mod, well, we've never met, but she sounds like a handy gal and I can't wait to see what she's helped you create!!

Take care-God Bless,
Kate
(sorry-not sure how to post my email here....I'm a newbie to commenting!)
